City Industry Dialogue for Clean & Health Construction
09:00 - 12:00
SIDE EVENT
City Industry Dialogue for Clean & Health Construction
The expected growth of urban population will drastically exacerbate the need for buildings and infrastructure in cities, already contributing close to 40% of global emissions. In a climate crisis context, cities can and will work to reduce these emissions through strategies including public procurement, policy, planning and building controls. They will do it better and faster in collaboration with the industry.
This session seeks to inspire and spark a dialogue between professionals and cities’ representatives to raise the bar for professional procurement within construction. The master class will introduce a holistic approach to emissions in buildings and present existing clean construction cases, then discuss pathways for change and alternatives to cut construction emissions and air pollution. The market dialogue will focus on construction materials and machineries, with an emphasis on cities’ needs and how the market can respond to them.
This event is open for everyone to join. Please sign up here .
Building a climate neutral circular city
09:00 - 12:00
SIDE EVENT
Building a climate neutral circular city
The City of Copenhagen and the Danish Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs invite you to join a workshop on how Circular Economy can address global challenges from urbanization, climate change and resource depletion.
Cities are key in the transition to a climate neutral circular economy, and we need cities, governments and companies to collaborate on finding new and better solutions.
Together with front running companies, decision makers and experts you will be part of exploring how cities can support these new solutions, e.g around business opportunities, digital services contributing to less material use, smart product use, intelligent logistics etc. The workshop discussions and output will form the basis of an international innovation challenge later this year on Circular Economy in cities.
The session is arranged by the Danish Business Authority together with the Municipality of Copenhagen and other partners.
This event is open for everyone to join. Please sign up here .

SIDE EVENT
C40 City Solutions Platform live @ BLOXHUB
Co-creating solutions to priority city climate challenges
C40 City Solutions Platform Live @ BLOXHUB (“CSP Live”) will be an opportunity to innovate and collaborate through showcasing, co-creating and inspiring climate action. The CSP, funded by Realdania, accelerates climate solution innovation and implementation in cities through early engagement with businesses, government and other climate solution providers.
CSP Live, generously hosted by BLOXHUB in partnership with CLEAN and Danish Design Centre, will run parallel co-creation workshops around urgent climate challenges for two cities, applying design thinking to drive solution development. The session will be introduced by keynotes from the mayors of the respective cities.
An early evening panel will address a larger audience to showcase successful public-private climate projects and discuss proven collaboration methods to bring and scale projects to market. The day will close with live solution pitches and feedback from the earlier city workshop participants, with networking & drinks to wrap up. Together, we will open up future collaboration opportunities around and beyond the city challenges, leaving a legacy of impact and inspiring us to act as a community now. Read more here.

Creating affordable dwellings in the cities
12:00 - 16:00
SIDE EVENT
Creating affordable dwellings in the cities
More people move to the cities and a grow of around 40 mill. new citizens are expected in the European cities before 2050. This development requires a further growth of the city infrastructure, new buildings and new dwellings in the cities.
A majority of the domestic building stock in the European cities is recognized as being buildings with 4-6 stories having a potential for energy efficiency renovation and a potential to utilize the roof and the existing attic for new attractive dwellings.
New dwellings in the attic can partly finance the renovation of the existing building and thereby become a tool for investing in modernization of the existing buildings in the cities. As the new dwellings do not require new infrastructure for energy and transport it is also an affordable solution for the city administration.
The masterclass discusses potentials, barriers and solutions with examples from different cities.
This event is open for everyone to join. Please sign up here .
How To Bend The Curve On Urban Diabetes

How To Bend The Curve On Urban Diabetes: How A Focus On Health And Prevention Of Disease Can Be A Driver For Creating More Sustainable And Climate-Friendly Cities
A group of experts and mayors from selected and potential new partnership cities in the global Cities Changing Diabetes are invited to a roundtable discussion on how cities can be designed to be more sustainable and climate-friendly and at the same time fight the continuously growing threat of diabetes and related chronic diseases.
Copenhagen has been part of the global Cities Changing Diabetes partnership since 2015 and has since then stepped up efforts to address the diabetes challenge with a focus on supporting citizens to achieve good quality of life. Copenhagen has formulated an action plan for diabetes, providing clear directions for how to ensure improved support and treatment for Copenhageners living with type 2 diabetes.
Based on examples from Copenhagen, the event focuses on how cities may learn from each other’s approach to dealing with the diabetes challenge in combination with other agendas such as food, transport, climate change, and livability.
The Value of Healthy Learning Environments in Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Schools
13:00 - 16:30
SIDE EVENT
The Value of Healthy Learning Environments in Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Schools
The value of better learning environments in schools is significant and well documented. This masterclass probes new research, planning, design and building practices to inform and support stakeholders in their efforts to develop better learning environments in sustainable and energy-efficient schools. Children today spend 90% of their time indoors. Poor indoor climates are harmful to their health and reduce their learning capabilities. Studies show that when students learn in optimal indoor environments, their learning abilities can be improved by up to 15%. New designs and renovations of schools represent major investment for cities and, when done properly, can result in several positive benefits for human health and climate change. Join this masterclass which brings together C40 summit delegates, leading architects, researchers and experts, who will discuss best practices, the science behind these, and present solutions and inspiration for planning tools and strategies.
- Learn about the latest insights on indoor climate and its effects on learning and be inspired by Danish best practices in new and renovated school buildings.
- Hear about the visions of the best Danish architects and engineers for a future of better learning environments, using technology and investment tools, as well as the positive design and behavioural changes experienced first-hand by clients and those responsible for implemented solutions in schools.
- Discover new partnerships to transform how we plan, build and renovate learning environments for the future and get inspiration for strategies and planning on multiple levels.
